Spaghetti and baked meatballs

Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1/2 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 lb ground veal

  • 1/2 lb ground pork

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tsp olive oil

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp dried basil

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)

  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepping the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, veal, and pork. Add breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well-combined.

  2. Forming the Meatballs: Using your hands, take a portion of the meat mixture and roll it into a ball roughly the size of a golf ball. Repeat until all of the mixture is used up.

  3. Cooking the Meatballs: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they're golden brown and cooked through.

  4. Sauce Preparation: While the meatballs are baking, begin preparing the sauce. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well. If desired, add sugar for a slightly sweeter sauce. Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Combine Meatballs and Sauce: Once the meatballs are cooked, gently add them to the sauce. Let them simmer in the sauce for an additional 60 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  7. Serving: Serve your tri-meat meatballs hot, garnished with fresh basil and additional grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.

This homemade tri-meat meatball recipe with a savory sauce is the ultimate comfort food for any occasion. Using everyday ingredients, it's a dish that's both simple to prepare and deliciously satisfying. Enjoy it over spaghetti, with a side of garlic bread, or on its own for a taste that's truly unbeatable.
