Meatball Parm Sub

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 Italian rolls or baguettes

  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • 8 slices of mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)

1. Making the Meatballs:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well-combined.

  • Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs. This should yield about 12-15 meatballs.

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs until they're browned on all sides and cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes per side. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

2. Assembling the Sandwich:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.

  • Cut your rolls or baguettes in half but not all the way through. The idea is to create a pocket.

  • On each roll, spoon a generous amount of marinara sauce. Place 3-4 meatballs (depending on size and preference) on top of the sauce.

  • Lay 2 slices of mozzarella cheese over the meatballs on each sandwich. Sprinkle with a generous amount of grated Parmesan.

  • Place your sandwiches on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • Optionally, garnish with fresh basil leaves for added flavor and a touch of green.

  • Serve immediately and enjoy the rich flavors of a classic Italian deli in the comfort of your home!
